An alternate timeline of 1991 was created when Dr. Emmett Brown, Jules and Verne Brown disintegrated a meteor before it could strike Earth back in the Cretaceous Period.
History
As a result, dinosaurs survived in this ABC timeline, evolving with human characteristics, and built civilizations. Humankind had never developed because of this evolutionary divergence.
Doc, Jules and Verne were forced to return to the past in the DeLorean time machine, and reverse anything they might have done by reintegrating the meteor just before it hit.
