The American Civil War, known in the United States as simply the Civil War, was a war between the Union Army and the Confederate States of America that began in April 1861. The war lacked a formal end, but all Confederate forces surrendered or disbanded by 1865.
One of the battles of the Civil War included the Battle of Chattanooga, where the Confederate forces, led by General Beauregard Tannen, went into battle against the Union forces, led by Ulysses S. Clayton. After Verne Brown travels in the DeLorean time machine to the date before battle, February 11, 1864, he is killed during the battle the next day.
Doc, Marty McFly, and Jules Brown discover his picture in The Civil War, a historical record of the American Civil War, and take the Jules Verne Train back in time to rescue him. After Doc, Marty, Jules, and Verne intervened in the war, brothers, cousins, and others on both sides of the war reconciled. They formed a truce, changing history to never show the battle as ever occurring.
