Back to the Future (バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャー) is a novelization of Back to the Future aimed at children, written by Ichirou Otsumiya (近江屋 一朗) and illustrated by Iwamoto05 (岩本 ゼロゴ).
Differences between novel and movie[]
- The rear two doors of the GMC Value Van open to the left and right, with boards extending from the inside.
- The sign indicating the distance from Lyon Estates to Hill Valley says 3 km, which is the metric system.
- Lorraine has said nothing about Calvin Klein.
- Doc says it took him six months to invent the Brain-wave analyzer.
- Doc was not mentioned Jerry Lewis or Jane Wyman.
- Doc says 1.21 Gigawatt, but Jigowatt is mentioned on the last page that is written about the film called “The Hill Valley Times"
- Babs and Red the Bum was not appeared in this novel.
- Betty appeared in the illustration, but she has no lines.
- Johnny B. Goode was not mentioned by name in this novel, instead it called Rock music.
- Marvin Berry did not called Chuck Berry.
- Lone Pine Mall was not mentioned, but it is mentioned on “The Hill Valley Times"

The novel is an adaptation intended for children in Japanese elementary school grades four through six, and it is only available in Japanese. There are illustrations of various scenes in the book.
It is followed by Back to the Future Part 2 (Poplar Novelization).
