In 1989, a video game, inspired by Back to the Future, was produced for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The game is well known for being one of the first video game reviews done by The Angry Video Game Nerd.

In the first stage, the player runs through a neighborhood and "collects clocks" to extend time. As the Nerd notes sarcastically, "So you're walking through Hill Valley, and every single thing you can imagine is out to kill you... bullies, hula hoop girls, killer bees, and guys holding glass windows... just like in the movie!"

At some point in game play, "Marty" gets the ability to throw bowling balls ("Remember that from the movie?") At the second stage, the player is in a large version of "Lou's Cafe", standing behind the counter and throwing milk shakes at bullies before they reach the counter.

The Nerd concludes that the film deserved a better game than was created for it four years after the film released, and that the only positive thing about the $50 cartridge was that it fits in a pop up toaster.

Other reviews of this game on YouTube aslo call this a horrible game because the game has (almost) nothing to do with the movie and/or because the game is very difficult.
