A blacksmith was a person skilled in the forging of metal.
History
In 1885, Emmett Brown applied his mechanical and scientific skills to performing the work of a blacksmith, working from a livery stable in Hill Valley, though it was also a front to conceal his hiding and attempted repairs of the DeLorean time machine.
Doc became quite adept at shoeing horses and fixing wagons, and gradually accepted his new life in the Old West — as he would mention in his letter to Marty McFly.
