Doc's Livery&Feed Stable

The livery stable which was Doc's home and workplace in Hill Valley of 1885.

"Doc had set up his shop in the old, dilapidated stable that Marty had passed when he first came into town. It was typical that Doc hadn't thought to put a sign outside to advertise his services. Still, Marty guessed, in a western town as small as Hill Valley, word of a new blacksmith probably got around pretty fast."
—From Back to the Future Part III by Craig Shaw Gardner (quote, page 82)

A blacksmith was a person skilled in the forging of metal.

History

In 1885, Dr. Emmett Brown applied his mechanical and scientific skills to performing the work of a blacksmith, living at and working from a livery stable in Hill Valley, though it was also a front to conceal his hiding and attempted repairs of the DeLorean time machine.

Doc became quite adept at shoeing horses and fixing wagons, and gradually came to accept his new life in the Old West — as he would mention in his letter sent via several generations of Western Union to Marty McFly in 1955.
