"As he drew closer, Marty saw that its [the car's] front end was completely smashed, as if someone had driven it into a wall. Nearby stood Marty's father and Biff Tannen, watching in silence as the truck driver unhitched the damaged vehicle."
—From Back to the Future by George Gipe (quote, page 28)

The Nova was a vehicle manufactured by Chevrolet.

History

In the first timeline, George McFly drove a 1979 Chevrolet Nova in 1985 before he lent it to his work supervisor Biff Tannen, who totaled it while drinking and driving (at the same time!). Biff then blamed George by claiming the car had a blind spot, and forced him to pay up to have his suit dry-cleaned as he had spilled beer over himself in the crash. The car was subsequently returned to the McFly residence on the back of a tow truck.

Marty McFly had been planning to borrow the car to take Jennifer Parker to the lake, but thanks to Biff these plans were ruined.

Lorraine used the car on one occasion in 1983 to go after Marty when she heard the sound of his skateboard as he sneaked out of the house and set off to meet his friends.[1]

Following Marty's return from 1955 to what turned out to be an altered and improved present, George owned a BMW 733i, which Biff — who now had his own auto detailing company — was waxing with the two coats of wax George liked.
