A coonskin cap was a type of hat worn mainly by children and teenagers in the 1950s and '60s. It was a fad inspired by the movie Davy Crockett and the TV show Daniel Boone. The hat was made of raccoon fur and had a tail that hung over the neck and upper back. Milton Baines was known to wear a coonskin cap.
Emmett Brown's son Verne also wore a coonskin cap quite frequently.
