DVD stands for digital video disc or digital versatile disc. From 1998 to 2008, DVD was the current standard for commercial media being released to the public.
In 2015, DVDs, along with Laserdiscs were present in the trash in the alley that Doc and Marty McFly landed in before executing their plan to clear Martin McFly Jr.'s name (Some of the DVDs may also have been compact disc music-CDs, which were the same size, and were just starting to replace vinyl records in 1985).
