Dale Carnegie (b. November 24, 1888 in Maryville, Missouri; d. November 1, 1955 in Forest Hills, New York) was the author of the self-help book How to Win Friends and Influence People, a prewar bestseller that George McFly read — and memorized large sections of — in 1954.
Unfortunately, far from helping George be more social, Mr. Carnegie's advice caused people to stay even farther away from him. The sole exception to this was Biff Tannen, who rubbed a hero sandwich into George's face when Mr. Carnegie's claim that a man could not remain hostile if one showed that one was sincerely interested in him proved somewhat ineffective.
