The Essex Theater was a movie theater that was located in the town square of Hill Valley. This theater had been apart of Hill Valley since at least 1955. It was present in 1985, but had closed down and had been replaced by 2015.
On November 5th, 1955, the Essex theater was showing "Cattle Queen of Montana" starring Barbara Stanwyck and Ronald Reagan. By 1985, the Essex had been turned into an adult movie house that was open 24 hours a day. This was evident on the sign as it showed the current movie as "Orgy American Style" and on the opposite side showed "Rated X".
