Frances Lee McCain (born July 28, 1944), also sometimes credited as Lee McCain, portrayed Lorraine Baines's mother Stella Baines in the first Back to the Future film.
History
Frances Lee McCain has an established resume on stage as well as in films, having appeared on Broadway in Woody Allen's Play it Again Sam, and off-Broadway in Lanford Wilson's Lemon Sky, creating the role of Carol. In films, she has had notable roles such as Lynn Peltzer, the mother of main character Billy Peltzer in the 1984 blockbuster hit film Gremlins (which had a novelization by George Gipe). Also that year, she played the Ethel McCormack in Footloose.
A San Diego, California native who also spent her early years in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, McCain graduated from Ripon College with a BA in Philosophy and then studied acting for three years at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England.
McCain played Mrs. Lachance in the 1986 film Stand By Me which also had Casey Siemaszko as Billy Tessio and Gary Riley as Charlie Hogan.
She played Nurse Judy in the 1998 film Patch Adams which included Norman Alden as a truck driver and Michael X. Sommers as a psych patient.
McCain reprised her role as Lynn Peltzer from Gremlins for LEGO Dimensions which also saw Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox reprising their roles from the Back to the Future trilogy
