The 1985 10¢ coin, as used by Doc and Marty in the past.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States. He was the president who signed an executive order in 1941 that authorized the development of the atomic bomb through the Manhattan Project. In 1946, his portrait was added to United States currency, on the 10¢ coin, better known as the dime.
In 1955, Marty McFly used dimes from 1985 as part of the tip he left at Lou's Cafe.[1]
In 1927, Doc Brown accidentally tried to bail Marty McFly out of jail with currency dated from 1985. The desk sergeant noted that it wasn't made of silver. He had never seen a dime like it before, and said the man on the front looked like Governor Roosevelt from New York.[2]
Behind the Scenes[]
In reality, Franklin D. Roosevelt wouldn't be elected governor of New York until 1928.
