George DiCenzo.
George DiCenzo (March 21, 1940 – August 9, 2010) portrayed Lorraine Baines's father (and Marty's grandfather) Sam Baines in the first Back to the Future film. He was 44 at the time of filming. DiCenzo, a well respected film and television actor, appeared frequently in police dramas, portrayed prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi in the TV film Helter Skelter, of which he had stated was "one of his most favorite roles". For two seasons (1990-91), DiCenzo was the star of Equal Justice as District Attorney Arnold Bach. In 1984 and 1985, he had a recurring role on the TV drama Dynasty as "Charles Dalton".
George was in show business for more than 40 years, with extensive film, TV, stage and commercial credits. He also appeared in over 30 feature films, including Close Encounters of the Third Kind The Ninth Configuration, The Exorcist III, and About Last Night.... He also served as a one-time associate producer for the 1960s ABC-TV horror soap opera Dark Shadows.
DiCenzo also had appeared in the 2010 film Hotel directed by Mike Figgis with an all-star cast, and Tempted, directed by Bill Bennett and starring Burt Reynolds and Saffron Burrows. He recently played the late baseball commissioner, A. Bartlett Giamatti, in the ESPN made for TV movie Hustle, about disgraced baseball great Pete Rose.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut, the veteran actor, who also did voice overs for cartoons and TV commercial ads, died in Bucks County, Pennsylvania after suffering from the effects of a near-fatal automobile accident he had been involved in some years before.
