Behind-the-scenes information
"I really don't think Tannen and Doc are with Herbert Hoover, Einie."
Marty McFly

Herbert Hoover (August 10, 1874October 20, 1964) was the 31st President of the United States. He was in office when Marty McFly came to 1931.

Herbert Hoover was head of the Food Administration during World War I and later served as Secretary of Commerce under Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge. In 1928, Hoover ran successfully for president against Democrat Al Smith. [1]

On October 29, 1929, the Wall Street Stock Market crashed, beginning the Great Depression. Hoover tried to combat the crisis, but his policies largely failed, as the panic only got worse over the course of his administration. In 1932, Hoover ran for a second term, but lost to Franklin D. Roosevelt.
