Marty Jr. shouts "Hey! I'm walkin' here!" when he is nearly hit by a Ford Probe.

"Hey! I'm walkin' here! I'm walkin' here!...Don't drive crank, low-res, scuzzball....!"
—Marty McFly Jr., after he is nearly hit by a Ford Probe while crossing the street

"Hey! I'm walkin' here!" was a line spoken by Dustin Hoffman as Ratzo Rizzo in the 1969 movie Midnight Cowboy.

History[]

In 2015, Marty McFly Jr. left the Cafe 80's and crossed the street without paying attention to oncoming traffic — as a result of which he was almost hit by a Ford Probe. Marty Jr. then shouted at the driver "Hey! I'm walkin' here! I'm walkin' here!"

Behind the scenes[]

  • The line "Hey! I'm walkin here!" was improvised by Dustin Hoffman. During shooting of Midnight Cowboy, Hoffman and his co-star Jon Voight were crossing a street when a taxicab drove into the shot. Hoffman almost shouted "Hey! We're shooting here!" but he decided to stay in character and instead shouted "Hey! I'm walkin' here! I'm walkin' here!"
  • "Hey! I'm walkin' here! I'm walkin' here!" was ranked #27 on the American Film Institute's AFI's 100 Years...100 Movie Quotes, a list of the top 100 most memorable quotes in American cinema history. The line has been referenced in numerous media since.
  • The line was also spoken in Forrest Gump (1994), another movie directed by Robert Zemeckis.
