Ivy Bethune (born Ivy Vigder on June 1, 1918 in Sevastopol, Russia, now Crimea, Ukraine) is a veteran screen and film character actress who portrayed Elsie Peabody in Back to the Future. Born in what is now the Ukraine, Ivy was raised in The Bronx, NY.

Career and personal

Ivy had worked with Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale in the 1978 film I Wanna Hold Your Hand, which also featured BTTF actors Wendie Jo Sperber and Marc McClure. She is also the mother of recently deceased veteran New York City born actress Zina Bethune (born February 17, 1945), who died on February 12, 2012 in Los Angeles. Ivy was formerly married to William Charles Bethune (Zina's father) from 1939 until his death in 1950. In 1971, she wed veteran actor Stuart Lancaster; they remained married until his death in 2000. Ivy, whose career has spanned over sixty years, began with a regular role on radio's Superman.

Ivy has performed in many of Southern California's theatre and repertory houses, including South Coast Repertory Co., La Mirada Theatre, Westwood Playhouse, Coronet Theatre, Theatre West, and, Colony Theatre. She appeared in The World of Ray Bradbury at the Colony, and other Bradbury shows such as "The Martian Chronicles", Fahrenheit 451 and Dandelion Wine. Ivy is also a passionate animal activist.
