Jack Benny (born Benjamin Kubelsky February 14, 1894 - December 26, 1974) was an American comedian, vaudevillian, and actor for radio, television, and film.

When Marty McFly told Emmett Brown in 1955 that the President of the United States in 1985 would be Ronald Reagan, he scoffed at the idea that a famous actor would hold a government office, and sarcastically suggested that the Vice-President might be Jerry Lewis, Jane Wyman would be the First Lady, and Jack Benny, who often portrayed a rich but stingy character, would be the Secretary of the Treasury.

During the 1950s and early 1960s, The Jack Benny Program appeared on television on the CBS network (the CBS station that served Hill Valley also carried The Jackie Gleason Show).  In 1955, Jack Benny's show appeared on alternate Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm in California.

Appearances

Behind the scenes

  • Since Jack Benny was relatively unknown in Europe, the joke was altered in other languages.  In the French-language version Retour vers le futur, the German-language version Zurück in die Zukunft, and the Italian-language version Ritorno al futuro , Doc asked, sarcastically, if John Wayne was the President Reagan's Minister of Defense (or War).
