In 1962, in the alternate timeline where Biff Tannen controlled Hill Valley, Biff walked onto the set of McLintock! to try to get Wayne to play his great-grandfather, Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen, in a film.
When Wayne told Biff that he didn't play "degenerate low-life trash", Biff tried to punch him — but ended up himself being knocked out with one punch from Wayne.
Behind the scenes
- In Retour vers le futur and Zuruck in die Zukunft, the French- and German-language versions respectively of Back to the Future, when Marty McFly tells Emmett Brown in 1955 that Ronald Reagan is the president in 1985, Doc mockingly suggests that John Wayne is the Minister of Defense. In the original English version, Doc suggested that Jack Benny was the Secretary of the Treasury; however, this reference was changed as Jack Benny was relatively unknown in Europe.
