Marilyn Monroe (born Norma Jeane Mortenson June 1, 1926; died August 5, 1962) was briefly married to Biff Tannen in 1960 of the alternate timeline where an elderly Biff used the DeLorean time machine and the Grays Sports Almanac to make his younger self a millionaire.

Biography

Marilyn divorced Biff after Dreams of a Madman, the first and only movie produced by Tannen Pictures, was released to scathing reviews. Afterwards, Biff left Hollywood to return to his hometown of Hill Valley, California and subsequently married Jayne Mansfield in 1970.

Behind the scenes

  • The original shot showed Biff marrying a woman with a blonde bouffant as his first marriage in the alternate timeline. As this was briefly shown, fans speculated this was Biff's wife from the original timeline, who presumably separated or died as intended. Marylin Monroe was shown as Biff's second wife, and the cause of the end to that marriage was presumed to be her death in 1962 as was per the original timeline. The canon was later reworked to shuffle the marriages, and have Jayne Mansfield be Biff's second wife. The termination of the marriages were never discussed, and it was assumed that originally Marylin Monroe was still fated to die at the same point as she did in the original timeline. The "Biff to the Future" storyline in the comics expanded upon this, giving Biff's running of Tannen Pictures into the ground as the reason. Marylin wanted more out of life than Biff could provide, and left him for find a man who could better help her in her acting career. Biff's second wife left him after discovering his obsession with Loraine. It was unknown if Marylin ever learned of Biff's obsession. It may have been surmised Biff got over Loraine with his first marriage, but after Marylin walked out on him, the flames of obsession burst forth again.
  • Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield aren't referred to by name in the comic books, but Biff's wives bear their likenesses, with Biff telling Bernie Kessoff "Even Marilyn left me. She took the last taxi out of Dodge." Also, the video footage on the monitor at the Biff Tannen Museum in Back to the Future Part II further shows their identities through actual photographs of the actresses, which were digitally altered to include Tom Wilson as Biff.
