Rafe Unger, also known as "Data", was a member of Griff's gang in 2015.

Biography

Data wore a computerized breastplate that could produce certain sound effects — such as a chicken when the gang used this insult against Marty McFly. His hoverboard was of the No Tech series.

He was apparently arrested after the gang crashed into the courthouse mall during their hoverboard pursuit of Marty.

Data sported facial markings that looked technological in nature. Whether these are simply ornamental tattoos, actual cybernetics, or simply trendy makeup has never been elaborated on in any officially licensed media.

Behind the scenes

Though not referred to by name in the film, Data is identified in the credits. The 2015 USA Today newspaper article gives his full name as Rafe Unger.
Data was portrayed by actor Ricky Dean Logan. Logan appeared again in Part III as "Needles' Gang Member #3" from 1985; this character could quite possibly have been the father of Data in 2015.
In the early draft screenplay, his name was "Hack".
