In deleted footage, reinstated for George Gipe's novelization, Dr. Emmett Brown hands the policeman a bribe. The officer asks, "You're not going to set anything on fire this time, are you?". Doc gives it some thought and answers, in the negative, "Naahh."
In more deleted footage, after Marty reads the date off the November 5, 1955 newspaper, he thinks he's dreaming and asks a lady to pinch him. She slaps him instead, and when the officer approaches, Marty hands him the paper and walks over to Lou's Cafe.
