Romancing the Stone, a movie released on March 30, 1984, was the film that brought director Robert Zemeckis to the attention of the general public.

In 1986, George McFly was talking to his agent about a movie version of his best selling novel, A Match Made in Space. When the agent told George about an offer by Zemeckis to direct his film, George referred to him as "the Romancing the Stone guy" and stated that he might be able to direct the movie "in thirty years".

Nearly thirty years later, on October 22, 2015, a story by Michael Klastorin appeared on the front page of USA Today, stating that Zemeckis was directing a remake of A Match Made in Space. The article also noted that he was known as the director of Romancing the Stone.[1]
