Science Fiction Theatre was a syndicated science fiction television program that aired from April 9, 1955 to April 6, 1957. It was George McFly's favorite show and he wouldn't miss it for anything.

As Marty McFly followed his future father to his house on November 8, 1955, George mentioned the show. This inspired Marty to don his radiation suit and pose as "Darth Vader" later that night to convince George to ask Lorraine Baines to the Enchantment Under the Sea dance. As a result, George — who had no desire to have his brain melted by the aforementioned alien being's ray gun — promptly changed his mind.

Behind the scenes

  • Ironically, the actor Michael Fox starred in the program several times. When Michael J. Fox first joined the Screen Actors Guild (S.A.G.), he added the middle initial 'J' to his name to avoid confusion with Fox — and also because of an S.A.G. rule that no two actors could have the same or similar names.
  • The program was syndicated, so it appeared on different nights in different cities, usually on "independent" television stations.
  • The episode of Science Fiction Theatre which George missed as a result of attending the Enchantment Under the Sea dance on November 12, 1955 was entitled "The Hastings Secret" and starred Bill Williams and his wife Barbara Hale.
