StaticAccumulator 1

The static accumulator.

"Glowing means my static accumulator is charged up and ready for action!"
Emmett Brown on the device's glowing blue rings.

The static accumulator was a device invented by young Emmett Brown in 1931. It was a key component for the flying car that he had invented for the Hill Valley Science Expo.

History[]

Emmett had left the static accumulator in his lab when he left for the expo and asked Marty McFly, secretly a time traveler from 1986, to bring it for him.

StaticAccumulator 2

Marty McFly tackles the static accumulator

On the way to the expo building, Marty was interrupted by Emmett's older self from an alternate timeline, who wanted to keep his younger version from going into science. The old Brown tried to take the static accumulator from Marty, which caused the device to release a charge of energy that knocked the two backwards and launched the static accumulator into the air, propelling itself away from any solid object -- including anyone who tried to pick it up. After several failed attempts to get hold of it, Marty managed to climb a lamppost and jump through the air, grabbing it and pulling it to the ground where he crashed into one of the expo's tents. He later gave it to young Emmett who placed it in the car, resulting in a successful demonstration of the flying possibilites of electro-kinetic energy.
