"It means that you win without a fight."

Stubble was a member of Buford's gang in 1885.

Biography[]

Stubble had blond hair and a beard of stubble on his face, which explains how he got his nickname, and usually stood behind Buford at his right side (on the left when facing them). He appeared to be the smartest or at least the most talkative of Buford's gang, since he reminded the forgetful Buford that they didn't have their guns at the Hill Valley Festival, the meaning of the word "forfeit", and that the number seven followed six.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Stubble was portrayed by Christopher Wynne.
  • Although Stubble was never called by name in the film — his name appeared only in the screenplay of Back to the Future Part III, and was called "Buford's gang member #1" in the credits.
  • More than 100 years later, and hours after returning from 1885 to 1985, Marty spots someone who resembles Stubble, and may well have been his great-great-grandson, when Needles pulls up alongside Marty's truck at a red traffic light, with his gang as passengers. Sitting in the passenger side of Needles' truck is a boy, who is also portrayed by Wynne.
