A Japanese-language version of Back in Time was first released on its own earlier in 2016, but later that year, Takarajimasha published Bokutachi no Suki na Back to the Future, which included the same documentary along with a Japanese translation of IDW Publishing’s comic story "When Marty Met Emmett".
Takarajimasha also published IDW Publishing's Back to the Future trade paperbacks in Japan, under their Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Comics imprint, that retained the left-to-right reading style of the original comics.
In 2017, they published Back to the Future: Untold Tales. The Japanese version was organized so that every story was a chapter. For a limited time, the first five chapters were available as a webcomic that was viewable from Takarajimasha's website. Later that year they published the Japanese version of Back to the Future: Continuum Conundrum.
In 2018, they published the Japanese version of Back to the Future: Citizen Brown, IDW's comic book adaptation of Back to the Future: The Game by Telltale Games.
