Did it work erratically?[]

I know this isn't to be used for speculation, but there are some who believed that the machine may have worked to some extent - just not the way Doc expected it to work:

The Device that Doc is wearing is a mind reading helmet, Doc says that he wasted 6 months and it didn't work. It actually did work, the great distance was from 1985 and from Lyon Estates to Hill Valley, the subscription to the Saturday evening post was for the newspaper Marty looked at earlier, and the donations was refering to the Save the Clock Tower lady in 1985 and the coast gaurd remark was to Stella thinking Marty was a sailor but he said he was coast gaurd.

  • But he wanted to read cards before picking them up. In his mind, he had failed, and according to the Part I novel, he thought Marty was from the Patent Office. Although, Marty wasnt wearing the "life preserver" outfit like he does in the movie. -- Riffsyphon1024 07:27, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Okay, yeah, I haven't read the novel - but, from what I understand, the Marty in the story was wearing the outfit that was selected for Eric Stoltz. If I understand correctly, I don't think the "life preserver" vest was a part of Eric Stoltz's costume. Which was raise the question of, how were the scenes where various 1955 residents pointed out Marty's "life preserver" originally filmed - when Eric Stoltz was in them? Maybe someone at BTTF.COM may know. Bttf4444 09:21, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
