Tannensaurus was a large red allosaurus that lived in the Alternate 1991 that was in the position of a police officer. Upon seeing the DeLorean time machine, he tried to sell it to a science laboratory. As Doc, Jules, and Verne Brown escaped in the DeLorean, he attempted to latch on with his tongue but became injured in the struggle.

He referred to another officer as "tailhead" (an obvious pun on Biff's popular catchphrase).

Behind the scenes

• Tannensaurus was voiced by Hal Rayle.
• In Back to the Future: The Game Episode 4 "Double Visions", Marty jokingly refers to the dinosaur model on the Hill Valley of the Past exhibit as the Tannenosaurus. Despite the slightly different name, this might be a reference to the Tannensaurus or just his encounters with a Tannen in every time period.
