Techne, the muse of progress, was the 'host' of the Hill Valley Science Exposition in 1931. She was played by Trixie Trotter. She represented the future progress of science in Hill Valley.

According to the rules of the expo, the actress who played Techne needed to have been born in the United States. This created complications when it was revealed that Trixie was in fact Canadian. At Edna Strickland's request, Trixie was fired, which allowed Marty McFly to use her anger to his advantage and get her to help in his plan to separate Emmett Brown and Edna.

As Techne, Trixie wore a yellow dress and a futuristic helmet.
