On October 26,1985, two members of the alien race known as Cybertronians are at Twin Pines Mall watching Marty McFly, in a DeLorean DMC-12, try to outrun a Volkswagon Station Wagon driven by Libyan terrorists. These two Cybertronians are Decepticons named Rumble and Ravage. Rumble reports the chase to another Decepticon named Soundwave, while enjoying the sight of humans trying to kill each other.

However, Rumble is interrupted by the leader of the Decepticons, Lord Megatron, who tells him to stop watching the chase and to resume trying to find a way to defeat Optimus Prime and the Autobots. Just as Rumble and Ravage are about to leave, they witness the DeLorean vanish into the space-time continuum. They then see Marty McFly reappear moments later. Ravage scans the area and discovers trans-temporal particles, leading Megatron to deduce that the DeLorean is a time machine.

Rumble and Ravage follow the DeLorean to Lyon Estates, where they see Dr. Emmett Brown drop Marty off at his house. Rumble and Ravage are about to attack Doc Brown before he and his dog Einstein can time-jump in the DeLorean to 2015. However, the Decepticons are prevented in doing so by an Autobot named Bumblebee.

Optimus Prime contacts Bumbleebee and says that they have to be careful as humans aren't ready for contact with extra-terrestrial life. Bumblebee throws Ravage and Rumble into some bushes in order to hide their presence and transforms into a car. Marty and Doc hear the commotion and wonder if it is the terrorists who are after the plutonium that powers the DeLorean.

The two are surprised when they look around and decide that there is no one there. Doc picks up an audio cassette, which is in reality the transformed form of Ravage, and Marty wonders if the cassette contains a recording of Van Halen. At that moment, Bumblebee, in car form, runs over the cassette, nearly running Doc and Marty over in the process. Doc is disappointed that they won't learn what is on the tape. Marty wonders if the car drove itself, however, Doc assumes that the brakes in car must have failed.

Doc and Einstein then resume their planned trip to 2015, and Marty and Bumblebee witness the DeLorean disappearing into the future. Bumblebee tries to report the event to Optimus Prime, however the latter wants to know the fate of the Decepticons. Bumbleebee states that Rumble has left and has left Ravage behind as scrap. Bumblebee then returns to the Autobot spaceship, which is known as the Ark. Marty crawls into his house through his bedroom window and goes to sleep.

Marty is waken up the next day at 5:00 AM by his father, George. George chastises Marty for sleeping in and tells his wife, Lorraine, that he found their son. Marty's entire family is wearing red jumpsuits, however he just ties his around his waist. Marty's brother, Dave, tells him to get on the transport before they get zapped.

On the transport, Lorraine wonders if anything had happened to Marty at the camp the day before. When Marty doesn't know what camp she is talking about, Dave once again fears that he is going to get them zapped. Marty then looks out the window of the transport at Hill Valley and discovers that it has been completely taken over by the Decepticons, and that the human residents are being forced to load and move Cybertronian fuel known as energon.

When they exit the transport, Lorraine becomes very worried about Marty, wondering if he got shocked by a punishment stick. After Marty talks about the space-time continuum and his adventure with Doc Brown in 1955, George agrees with Dave that he is going to get them zapped and tells his son to pull himself together.

At that moment, they are interrupted by Biff Tannen, who is the coordinator of the Hill Valley energon operation. Biff tells the McFly family to get back to work, however Lord Starscream reprimands Biff and tells him that Hill Valley is behind on their quota. Starscream taps Biff on the head with his finger, telling him to think, and then wondering if Megatron was wrong to trust him.

While they are distracted, Marty tells his dad that it's wrong for them to be forced to work for the Decepticons. However, George is not persuaded as the Decepticons had previously hurt Needles for trying to fight back. Marty decides to fight back anyway and throws a garbage can lid at Starscream like a frisbee. After it doesn't faze Starscream at all, Marty realizes it was a bad idea. He begins to run, but trips over a skateboard. At first Marty complains that the skateboard was in his way, but then realizes that he could use it to escape Starscream.

However, Marty's plan doesn't go smoothly. Starscream transforms into a jet and blasts the skateboard with a laser just as Marty tries to hang on to Long Haul in dump truck form.

Marty is saved, however, by the DeLorean, which knocks Starscream back into the Jones Fertilizer building. Marty expects to see Doc, however, he is surprised to see the DeLorean is actually and Autobot named Gigawatt.

Gigawatt is aware of Marty's name and appearance and tells him to get inside so that he can save the future.
