Doc Brown discussing the novel with Clara Clayton in 1885.
- "So do I. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, my absolute favorite. The first time I read that, when I was a little boy, I wanted to meet Captain Nemo!"
- —Doc Brown discussing his love for Jules Verne.
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (in French: Vingts mille lieues sous les mers) was a novel by Jules Verne published in 1870.
History[]
This novel was mentioned by Dr. Emmett Brown while discussing Jules Verne with Clara Clayton on September 5, 1885, describing it as being "my absolute favorite" when he was a little boy — as well as mentioning that he had wanted to meet Captain Nemo when he first read the book.
In his enthusiasm, Doc had forgotten where he was; Clara laughed and pointed out that the book had only been first published ten years before, therefore Doc could not have read it when he was a little boy (as far as she was aware). Realizing his blunder, Doc said that he meant the book had made him "feel like a boy".
