Ulysses S. Clayton was a Union Army General during the American Civil War. He led his troops in the Battle of Chattanooga in 1864 against the forces of Confederate Army General Beauregard Tannen.

After the intervention by the Brown family, Clayton's men stood down and a truce between Clayton and Tannen was formed.

Ulysses Clayton was Clara Clayton's uncle.
